In August 2014 Jukka Nevalainen announced that he cannot peform on the upcoming album due to his long-term insomnia, and that the album would be recorded with instead. It was the last encore song of that show, meaning it was the last song Tarja ever sang as a member of the band. But at the end of the day, I have to go with End of an Era for the massive sentimental value. At the same time Troy Donockley was also promoted from a touring member to a full-time member. They are all great, and I adore Marco and Floor’s cute little woohoo after the first chorus of the Wacken version. Jansen was finally made an official member in October 2013.
Floor Jansen took up the vocal duties for the rest of the tour. Turunen was replaced by Anette Olzon in 2007. In October 2005 the band fired the singer and founding member, Tarja Turunen, motivating their decision with her selfish behavior and lack of respect towards the band and fans, which grew worse in the last years. In the meantime, bassist Sami Vänskä was replaced by the bass player of Tarot (and ex-Sinergy), Marco Hietala, who would also provide some male vocals. Nightwish's popularity began to grow, reaching its top in 2002, when their album Century Child became a top-seller (it made Gold in Finland in two hours, and Platinum in two weeks).
The next year, bass player Sami Vänskä joined in. In 1997, drummer Jukka Nevalainen joined the band, which recorded its first album, Angels Fall First.
The first incarnation of the band included singer Tarja Turunen and guitar player Erno "Emppu" Vuorinen, along with Tuomas himself. I don't know, but to me it sure seems like it's the case. If you watch the newer live performances with Floor, and having seen them perform the song live with her, she does put a slight bit more of a pause in between words than Tarja did. It's sung differently, but to me that seems the intent behind the lyrics. If you look at it that way, it's kinda clear what he's talking about.

I think he just went a lot further into poetic license than most of their other songs, but it's clearly a song of deep longing, questions, a search for love. Given his command of English, it's pretty clear that he intended for it to be this way. It feels like a glaring mistake at first. The worst line for me is "Just once that all I need". Joking aside, I love the song, but it took a while because of the mental disconnect required to sit back and just go with the lyrics.

I think he was just so messed up and blinded by his unrequited hard on for Tarja he just forgot how to write for a bit, but the song was awesome so they were like, "Fuck it. Justonce (a single time) that all I need.

This is, in my opinion, makes the lines sound awkward, because then it doesn't explain the weird construction in the other lines of the chorus.īut, if you look at the beginning of each line as a full word that has its own meaning, it makes much more sense. "Ever felt away with me? Ever dream of me?". I think the trap in this case is to fall back on normal English conventions and assume that the lines, in their unaltered form, are questions. Forevermore means forever, and evermore means always ("ever"). If you look up the origins of words like these, you'll find that they're not exactly standalone words, but are simply more stylistic ways of relaying the meaning of the root word. The way I read it is that the phrases "ever felt" and "ever dream" are stylized similar to words such as "forevermore", "evermore", etc. I would argue that the lyrics are the way they are for purely artistic reasons, not because of a loss to translation into English.
